Jane Morgan - Artist Statement
Art transforms my whole being – I can immerse myself in painting, drawing, or printmaking and “forget that the rest of the world exists!”
I graduated from the University of Louisville with a Bachelor of Fine Art’s degree. My concentration was in oil painting. In addition to this degree, I have many hours in advanced printmaking.
I have traveled all over the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean islands. I have participated in Study Programs in San Miguel Allende, Mexico; Hong Kong and southern China; Paris, France; Greece; Turkey, and Harbor Island. I have participated in painting, drawing, and printmaking workshops and classes in the USA with notable local, regional and nationally known artists. One of my favorite places to go and paint is off the coast of Maine on Monhegan Island.
I have exhibited individually, in group shows, juried shows, and in galleries in Kentucky and Indiana. My work is in private, corporate, and individual collections in the United States. I was selected via jury to be in the 2002 “Hoosier Waters” show in Indianapolis, IN. A book was published with all the paintings and drawings of the Indiana Waterways Project. My piece was a drawing of Yellowwood Lake.
I am the founder and Group Leader of “The Plein Air Painters of Kentucky.” We have been in operation since 1998.
I own and operate a fine art gallery, Jane Morgan Gallery, Inc., 4838 Brownsboro Center, Louisville, KY 40207. In the last few years I have featured plein air work extensively and represent twelve plein air painters in the gallery.
